My Absolute Favorite Musicals

Hey y’all!

Upon asking my best friend what to write on and him saying I should do my favorite musicals, here I am.

I can’t choose favorites with a lot of things, so this list isn’t in any particular order. Just my favorites. 🙂

Music Man

Music Man was released in 1962 and is such a beautifully vibrant and and happy musical, full of lots of amazing songs and dancing!! Starring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones and others…this musical will have you singing new songs, and just feeling happy. I love musicals like that. The ones that just leave you feeling happy. ❤ If y’all don’t like long musicals, though…I will say, this one is about 2 and a half hours. 🙂

Fiddler On the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof has always been a favorite musical of mine… It is such a wholesome (though perhaps not as accurate, traditionally…), fun-loving musical, full of good music and dancing. If you thought Music Man was long…this one is 3 hours. 🙂

Sound of Music

I practically grew up watching The Sound of Music and I still love it so much. It is such a beautiful and well-done musical, based off a true story. I highly recommend it. (Oh, and it’s almost 3 hours long, too.) 🙂

The Greatest Showman

I really, really love The Greatest Showman. Not many modern filmmakers can pull off a musical these days like the director Michael Gracey. I really love how The Greatest Showman was made, and it’s a little under 2 hours long. 🙂

Three Little Words

My brother got this film for me for Christmas and I love it! It is so fun, and full of dancing (which I really, really love…). Fred Astaire, Red Skelton, Vera-Ellen and Arlene Dahl act in this almost-2 hour film, and they do an excellent job. ❤

Swing Time

My best friend told me about this musical and I have adored it, since. With Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers both singing and dancing in Swing Time, I couldn’t be happier. They do an amazing job in this almost-2 hour film and I highly recommend it.

Blue Skies

My brother got me this 1946 musical for Christmas and I just think it is so sweet. Featuring Fred Astaire, Joan Caulfield and Bing Crosby, this is such a fun musical that is sure to keep you laughing and giving you all those romantic feels. 🥰

Newsies

I absolutely cannot write this post, without including this musical. The Newsies is one of my absolute favorites. With amazing dancing and singing…ahh, I just love this!! Christian Bale is the star and {if I remember correctly}, this was the first time he had starred in a film where he had to dance and sing. This movie is SO fun and energetic, and will get lots of amazing songs stuck in your head (and probably a desire to learn some dances…one thing on Mom and mine’s bucket list.)

My Fair Lady

I think most people either adore Audrey Hepburn, or they find her films odd and exotic… I absolutely love her. And this film is a perfect showcase of her acting talents. My Fair Lady is basically the epitome of what a well-done musical is, and it has such a large quantity of songs that I just love. I highly recommend this musical, with as vivid and happy as it is.

Funny Face

Another film with Audrey Hepburn, except this musical includes Fred Astaire, too. I will say…they make an interesting little couple. Slightly odd, since I’ve seen Fred Astaire with so many other girls before, in musicals. And yet, this musical is as sweet as ever. Audrey Hepburn does a really lovely job in this musical and she is just So. Cute. (as usual with her…). This is a really sweet, romantic musical which I highly recommend.

White Christmas

White Christmas is SUCH a fun Christmas musical. Starring Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby (such an awesome dancing and singing duo), this musical is soo cute and well-done. There are some really funny parts in this film, and it is sure to keep you laughing.

Second Chorus

I’m pretty sure that this is my ABSOLUTE favorite musical with Fred Astaire. The storyline is hilarious, the music is fantastic and the dancing, superb. I highly recommend this bouncy, fun musical to all ages. It is SO much fun.

Well, those are all of the musicals I can think of. I hope y’all enjoyed this post!!! I’d LOVE to hear about any musicals you love. Thanks so much for reading!

Carpe Diem!

Keziah ❤

  1. I was in Salzburg Austria in August 2004. I had the chance to tour the Van Trapp home and go into the Bavarian Alps. I made Sound of Music come alive for me. Except to realize the ending of Sound of Music is geographically impossible and learning the family actually took a train to Italy.
