Why Must We Run From Truth?

I have just felt a righteous anger over this subject, and I must write.

I must say what I have felt must be said.

Why are we okay with watching violent movies such as those done by Marvel, DC…movies such as Gladiator, 1917, Hacksaw Ridge, or even the Lord of the Rings movies? But not ones about serious matters, such as abortion?

How are those stories any more important than learning about matters relevant to today’s society and problems?

I know. I’m messing with some of y’alls’ favorites. But I must write on this. I shall not be dissuaed.

Why is it fine to watch a movie of men being killed, but oh no, it’s too uncomfortable to watch a movie of little, precious babies being murdered? This is wrong and it is selfish to others suffering about.

How can we justify the constant reminders of violence and blood displayed on video, when the very substance itself is being poured out by people around the world, whom we mindlessly walk by?

Why has the film industry glorified the idea of violence and left us, numb and some…longing for more?

I understand that war movies are good for people to better realize what wars are truly like. But we don’t need to constantly fill our mind with that. We don’t need to replace important, more crucial things, with those thoughts and images.

I just do not understand how we can justify violent, grotesque movies, and yet shrink away from very real movies that contain stories which we NEED to be told, in order to grow and mature.

We must strive for the beautiful. For the truth. And nothing less.

Yes. When you love, you feel the hate stronger. But when you love, you conquer the hate, all the more.

If only we loved and cared more, were selfless. If only we hated and lusted less, weren’t selfish.

If only we, just once… looked at what was around us and asked.

How is this influencing me for the good? and,

Am I loving people more, or less, since being influenced by these things?

What influences us, is powerful. It is earth shattering and mind blowing. It can destroy us, or grow us.

So, take some time to look around you. Is the media you allow yourself to indulge in, full of beauty and truth? Have you grown for the good, in what you’ve allowed yourself to be influenced by?
